Sustainability
Environmental education includes interaction with the community in bush land rehabilitation, river quality, ‘Waste Wise School’ activities and accreditation as a ‘Water Wise School’. The school has currently developing a partnership with the School Board a ‘sustainability’ vision and a Sustainability committee has been formed with both staff and School Board representatives.
Students are currently involved in recycling, worm farms, vegetable gardens, weather wall, water wise, waste wise and with the installation of solar panels.
Mission Statement: Our purpose is to create active change agents through promoting concepts, knowledge and skills that contribute to developing sustainable practices. We will promote stewardship through consultation with the wider community to create relevant, engaging and motivational solutions that are observable and improve our quality of life. This is to be achieved through effective and explicit teaching and learning experiences that will increase opportunity for responsible sustainable leadership.
Solar Power: Capel Primary has over 140 solar panels or 36KW installed which on a clear day produces the majority of the school energy requirements. Have a look at how much solar power we are currently producing by clicking on this link.
Water: Capel Primary School values our precious resource water. The school uses a combination of rainwater, bore-water to not only water our grounds but in our toilet systems to meet or sustainability vision.
