School Bus and Road Safety
SCHOOL BUS ORGANISATION APPLY ON LINE
In order for students to travel on the school bus parents must apply online at
www.schoolbuses.wa.gov.au
MORNING PROCEDURE
In the morning older students will escort the Kindy and Pre Primary children to their classrooms.
AFTERNOON PROCEDURE
Should a child not be travelling on the bus in the afternoon or be needing to travel on one of the other buses it is the parents’ responsibility to contact the office. This may be done either by a note to the office or by phoning the school 97272183. Regular events which may prevent the child from travelling home on the bus (ie sporting or music commitments) only require a single note to cover the season.
1. After children have been released from class, the bus children line up and board the bus on the Bus Warden’s instruction.
2. Pre-Primary and Kindergarten children are escorted to the bus and boarded by education assistants.
3. Should a child miss the bus they must report to administration. The office will
a) contact the parent/guardian immediately
b) supervise the child at school until the parent has been contacted and arrangements have been made for the child to be collected.
The Principal is usually at school to assist with the supervision. Should parents be unable to contact anyone at the school, please phone the principal.
COMPLIMENTARY PASSENGERS
At times students may wish to travel on the school bus as complimentary passengers. Permission must be obtained from both the Bus Contractor and the Principal and the correct School Bus Complimentary Passengers form MUST BE COMPLETED. These permission slips may be obtained from the school office.
ROAD SAFETY
All students are encouraged to walk on the footpath where one is provided. Where there is no footpath available, students should be instructed to walk on the right side of the road facing the oncoming traffic. Parents should drill their children in the safe crossing of roads to and from school. This is a regular community concern. Where students have to cross a major artery such as Goodwood or Forrest Roads parents should select the safest crossing point for their children to use each day and practise safe crossing.
BICYCLE SAFETY
All students in the middle grades participate in a program involving basic road safety skills and general bicycle care. The police department recommend that as children younger than nine experience difficulty in grasping Road Safety concepts they should be discouraged from riding to school.
Cyclists are expected to…
- Wear a helmet
- Ride on the left hand side of the road
- Not ‘double dink’
* The school will not condone the unlawful riding of bicycles to school without helmets.
Road safety and the use of public foot paths should be discussed with your child if they are riding scooters, skate boards and rip sticks.
Year 5 complete a series of practical ‘BikeEd’ session during Term 4. This involves the children in learning the fundamental bicycle skills that encourage safe riding on the road.
SCHOOL TRAFFIC RULES
Please note the school traffic rules for the dropping off and picking up of children. New families, please note that the local rule is to travel anti-clockwise around the school. The road around the school is now legally gazetted as a one-way road, from the sign just before the start of the school oval on Barlee Road until the turn-around area at the side of the Pre-Primary building.
Please drive slowly along House and Barlee Roads, particularly after school as children wander away from the school. This is now compulsory with the gazetting of ‘one way’ roads.
Please do not use the turn-around area at pre primary as a parking bay; use only the designated reverse angle parking bays. Please REVERSE PARK when you park.
Speed limit around schools is 40 km/hr.
